ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the expression of autophagy related genes microtubule-associated protein 1 light 3 (LC3) and forkhead box protein 1 light 3 (FoxO1) in gastric cancer tissues and its significance. Methods:The expression of LC3 and FoxO1 protein were examined by immunohistochemical SP method in 29 gastric cancer tissues and adjacent cancer tissues, their relationship with some tumor pathological parameters was analyzed. Results:The positive rates of expression of LC3 and FoxO1 protein in gastric cancer tissues were significantly higher than those in adjacent cancer tissues (P<0.01) .The expression level of LC3 in gastric cancer tissues was significantly correlated with tumor differentiation, lymph node metastasis, clinical stage and depth of tumor invasion, while it had no correlation with gender, age, tumor location and size of gastric cancer. The expression level of FoxO1 in gastric cancer was significantly correlated with tumor differentiation, while it had no correlation with gender, age, tumor location, size of gastric cancer, lymph node metastasis, clinical stage and depth of tumor invasion. Conclusion:Expression level of autophagy related genes LC3 and FoxO1 increased in gastric cancer tissues, and both of them are correlated with tumor differentiation, moreover, a high expression of FoxO1 is an frequent event in early gastric cancer, which suggested that increased level of autophagy activity plays an important role in promoting the occurrence and development of gastric cancer.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the effects of psychological disorders on qualityoflife of elderly patients with non-erosive reflux disease (NERD) under maintenance treatment of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Methods A total of 76 elderly patients with NERD treated by proton pump inhibitors (maintenance treatment of Esomeprazole over half a year) were enrolled. They were classified into symptom group aged (66.5±8.2) years (n=35) and symptom group aged(68.2+6.9)years (n=41)according to reflux symptoms, with 20 healthy people aged(65.4 ±8.8)years as control. The subjects completed the questioniaires on psychological status including self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rating depression scale (SDS) and their quality of life was evaluated by gastroesophageal heath related quality-of-life instrument(GERD -HRQL) and medical outcomes study short form(SF-36). Results Scores of SAS and SDS were significantly higher in symptom group (54.9±6.2,57.9±8.6) than in symptomless(37.9±8.7,42.7±7.9) and health control group (38.9± 7.2,43.1 ± 8.9),all (P<0.05),but there was no difference between symptomless and health control group. The rates of anxiety and depression in symptom group (51.4%,57.1%) were increased as compared with symptomless (12.2%,9.8%)and health control group(0.0%,5.0%).Scores of GERD HRQL in symptom group were higher than in symptomlcss group (21.4± 5.0 vs.4.5±2.2,t=19.76,P<0.01)while the indexes such as body pain, vitality, social function, affection, mental and whole health in score of SF-36 besides physiology function were lower in symptom group than in symptomless and control groups (P<0.05 or P<0.01 ).Only the significant differences in mental and whole health of SF-36 were found between symptomless and control groups (P<0.01).Correlation analysis revealed that SAS and SDS scores were positively correlated with scores of GERD-HRQL in symptom group(P<0.01) and negatively with all dimensions of SF-36 but physical function (P< 0.05). Conclusions Most of elderly symptomatic patients with NERD treated by PPI are in psychological disorders which results in lower quality of life.

ABSTRACT

10 years) groups. The form and function of ventricle were measured. And the blood pressure, hemoglobin, plasma albumin,pre-albumin,lipid,C responsive protein, calcium, phosphate and parathyroid hormone before dialysis were determined. Results The cardiac output(CO) of 1~2 years group was the highest. The left ventricular end-systolic and end-diastolic dimension(LVEDd/s)and left ventricular mass index(LVMI)of ≤1 year group were the lowest. With the increase of the dialysis ages, the blood pressure and the proportion of diabetes patients and those with LVH decreased, but the hemoglobin, plasma albumin,pre-albumin,calcium,phosphate and parathyroid hormone increased, while the CRP decreased. Conclusion With the increase of the dialysis ages, the left ventricular function of the uremic hemodialysis patients improves, which is probably associated with the improvement of anemia, malnutrition and inflammation.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the diagnositic value of exercise stress echocardiography (ESE) in patients with pacemaker-dependnet.Methods Forty-six patients remained pacemaker dependent with a fixed heart rate throughout ESE and coronary angiographic studies. Results Thirty-four of 46 patients completed the ESE. Coronary artery disease was confirmed in 28 of 34 who had coronary angiograms. ESE had a sensitivity of 75% and specificity of 83% in pacemaker-dependent patients. Conclusions ESE has preserved diagnostic utility in pacemaker dependent patients with absolute chronotropic incompetence.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To establish a mini invasive way to evaluate endothelium function. Methods: Group 1 consisted of 10 subjects with no risk factors for coronary artery disease, group 2 consisted of 11 subjects with risk factors for coronary artery disease and angiographically normal coronary arteries. Two groups of patients underwent transesophageal echocardiography(TEE) for assessment of LAD diastolic blood flow velocity (V) and time velocity integral (VTI) at rest (B 1), 2 min after immersion of the hand in cold water (CPT), 5 min after rewarming of the extremity (B 2), and 5 min after administered nitroglycerin. The percent change in V and VTI were calculated between B 1 and CTP and B 2 and nitroglycerin. Results: After CPT the percent increase in V and VTI were significant in group 1 than group 2 ( P

ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the blood velocity variety(BFV) of common carotid artery. Methods: BFV was detected with HDI5000 colour doppler ultrasound in 28 healthy volunteers to observe whether there was bifurcation among BFV of each section (about 6.0 cm) of common carotid artery(CCA). CCA was divided into 5 sections (1 cm) from its beginning to bifurcation. BFV was detected in each section. Influences of age, heart rate, blood pressure on BFV were observed. Results: BFV decreased gradually from its beginning to its divergence, the average decreasing value of each section BFV was 5.37 cm/s, and 4.24 cm/s, the difference between maximal and minimum BFV was 17.35 cm/s and 14.32 cm/s in right, left CCA respectively. Maximal BFV increased with age, blood pressure increased and heart rate decreased. But the change of each section BFV was not influenced by age, blood pressure and heart rate. Conclusion: The results indicate that each section BFV is not consistent in CCA, deviation is more obvious when stenosis is valued by internal carotid artery(ICA) BFV/CCA BFV, it should be valued with maximal BFV of ICA.
